Remarks:
This portrait could depict the Italian merchant Giuseppe Caprotti (1862-1919), who was a resident in Ṣanʿāʾ for more than 30 years from 1885.
Like Eduard Glaser (1855-1908), Giuseppe Caprotti devoted himself to the collection of Arabic manuscripts. During his more than 30 years of residence in Yemen, Caprotti managed to bring together some 1,790 manuscripts, some of which were sold to the then 'Königliche Hof- and Staatsbibliothek zu München' (Royal Court and State Library) through the mediation of Eduard Glaser.
