The beginning of this letter reads: 'L. Br.!' (abbreviated for: Dear brother!)
Dein Eduard'
Short description:
Eduard Glaser (1855-1908) instructs his brother Alois (1853-1931) how to withdraw the money issued by the British Museum Library in the form of a bill of exchange following the acquisition of Eduard Glaser's collection of Arabic manuscripts dating from his third trip to Yemen (October 1887 - September 1889).
He apologises for not writing to his eldest brother Karl (1851-1898), as he is busy with preparations for the 8th International Congress of Orientalists to be held in Stockholm in September 1889:
Glaser intends to finalise his manuscript 'Skizze der Geschichte Arabiens von den ältesten Zeiten bis zum Propheten Muhammad. Ausschließlich nach inschriftlichen Quellen' in order to offer it as a gift to the Swedish king Oscar II (1829-1907), thus complying with a request by the President of the Congress Count Carlo Landberg (1848-1924).
