The first line of the letter reads: 'L. Br!' (abbreviated for: Dear brother!) Heute erhalte ich deinen Brief, in welchem du mir vorwirfst, dass ich dich unrichtig verstanden hätte u. gleichzeitig auch die Verständigung von der bayer. Vereinsbank, dass sie dir 8000 Mark zugesandt haben.
... Hoffentlich hast du schon das Geld u. machst gute Geschäfte! Das wünsche ich dir von Herzen. Nun etwas anderes: Warum habt Ihr mir den Wein nicht geschickt? Ist er am Ende ausgetrunken worden? Ich musz darüber umgehend verlässlich Auskunft haben, weil ich beabsichtige, drei o. 4 Flaschen davon dem König Oscar von Schweden zu offeriren als Rarität.
Wenn ich weisz, dass der Wein vorhanden ist, dann thu ich das, sobald ich nach Stockholm komme, indem ich erkläre, ich lasse den Wein aus meiner Heimath kommen. Ist der Wein aber nicht mehr vorhanden, dann musz ich mein Anerbieten unterlassen... ... mir liegt an der Gunst dieses Königs sehr viel, weil er mich vielleicht auch mit Geld unterstützen wird.
Ich reise mit Prof. Hommel nächsten Montag via Berlin und Copenhagen nach Stockholm .... Dann gedenke ich ... nach Saaz zu kommen, hauptsächlich wegen Karls Angelegenheiten. ... Grüsze mir alle ohne Ausnahme, besonders Karl und Marie, die sich keine Sorgen machen sollen - auch unser Herr Papa soll sich freuen, dass Got sei Dank alles gut geht. Dein Eduard ...'
