Remarks:
Carlo Landberg uses an alias for his informal correspondence with Eduard Glaser. He signs his letters with 'aš-šayḫ ʿumr as-suwīdī' (الشيخ عمر السيدي), which carries the meaning 'alter Schwede', a joking form of address that can be translated as 'old chap' to express surprise or to address a (good) friend.
