'Dear Sir, The Council of the Anglo-Jewish Association, in following the example set by the Alliance in Vienna, have voted a subvention of £ 20 in favour of your intended expedition to South Arabia.
With this grant the Council connect an expression of their desire that you shall be good enough to favour them with a clear & comprehensive report related to the statistics, the social and general condition, & the educational requirements of our Jewish brethren in those places of Arabia which you will visit, as also in such other places in Arabia concerning which, without visiting them, you may succeed in obtaining useful information.
... In all other respects I confirm the contents of my previous letter. Through a mischance that letter, instead of reaching its destination, was returned to me & was re-posted on the 2nd ... I am, dear Sir, yours truly A. Löwy, Secretary.'

The Anglo-Jewish Association was founded in 1871 to represent views on matters relevant to Jews and to facilitate education through operating a network of Jewish schools across the British Empire. One of the two founders was Albert Löwy, the minister of the West London Synagogue.
