'Hochgeehrter Herr Doctor! Ihr freundliches Schreiben vom 3. d.M. habe ich mit bestem Dank erhalten. Wenn es nicht anders geht, so musz ich einfach warten, wenngleich Sie ermessen k�nnen, dass mich diesz einige �berwindung kostet, da ich - diesz im Vertrauen - die Absicht hatte, mit den Pilgern von Syrien aus nach der heiligen St�dten u. von dort abermals mit den Pilgern nach S�darabien am Landweg zu gehen.
Zu diesem Zwecke hatte ich schon alle Verabredungen mit einfluszreichen Orientalen getroffen u. hatte mir auch meinen treuen Diener, einen Mohammedaner, mit hierher genommen, f�r den ich recht viele Auslagen umsonst gemacht habe.
Mit der Bitte, dem Herrn Generaldirektor u. Herrn Professor Dr. Ahlwardt meine ehrerbietigsten Empfehlungen melden zu wollen, zeichne ich Ihr hochachtungsvoll ergebenster Glaser'

Eduard Glaser (1855-1908) confides in Valentin Rose (1829-1916), Head of the Manuscript Department at the K�nigliche Bibliothek zu Berlin (Royal Library in Berlin), that the long decision-making process concerning the acquisition by the Royal Library of the collection of manuscripts he had assembled during his second journey to South Arabia (April 1885 - February 1886), has thrown the planning of his third journey to Arabia into disarray:
He had the intention to join pilgrims on their march from Syria to the holy cities on the Arabian Peninsula and from there continue to South Arabia. 'To this end, I had already made the necessary arrangements with influential Oriental leaders and had also taken my faithful servant, a Muslim, with me to Europe, on whom I spent quite a lot for nothing.'
