Provenance: The Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, represented by its member Joseph Derenbourg (1811-1895), had provided the funds for Eduard Glaser's (1855-1908) first trip to Yemen (October 1882-April 1884) on the condition that the scientific results would become its property.
In accordance with these contractual obligations, Eduard Glaser handed over his collection of 276 inscriptions (including several original stones) to Joseph Derenbourg in June 1884, from whom this object passed into the possession of the Musée du Louvre.
