The 'Staatliche Museen zu Berlin – Preußischer Kulturbesitz' (SMBPK), in particular the 'Vorderasiatisches Museum', hosts a remarkable collection of Ancient South Arabian artefacts, including a total of 108 objects brought together by Eduard Glaser (1855-1908) which were acquired 'in three batches'.
1) The collection was formed in 1886, when the then Königliche Museen zu Berlin ('Royal Museums in Berlin') purchased the first 28 ancient South Arabian objects (6 stone monuments and 22 smaller antiquities) from Eduard Glaser for the amount of 4,300 marks on May 6th, 1886.
2) A second batch of 44 items (gems, beads, seals, scaraboids) was purchased in April 1889 for the amount of 700 marks.
3) Glaser's collection of original stones, brought together by the explorer during his third journey to Yemen (October 1887 - September 1888), was acquired by the German-Jewish publisher and philanthropist Rudolf Mosse (1843-1920) who passed it on as a donation to the 'Königliche Museen'. It is by a royal decree dated June 1st, 1891, that the 'Königliche Museen zu Berlin' were authorised to accept Rudolf Mosse’s donation.
