This article provides an overview of the history of the collections of Oriental coins in Germany. With the establishment of Oriental Studies as an independent discipline from theology, the 19th century saw a significant increase in academic research also in the field of numismatics. (p. 520)
At the same time, large collections of coins were traded and bequeathed to museums leading to new research and publications of catalogues. In 1886, the then Königliches Münzkabinett zu Berlin (Royal Coin Cabinet in Berlin) acquired a collection of 14 Himyarite and 85 Islamic - mainly Rasūlid - coins from Eduard Glaser (p. 523) which he had collected during his second journey to Yemen (April 1885-Feb. 1886).
Subsequently, 8 coins (doublets) were transferred - through the mediation of Heinrich Nützel (1863-1934) - to the 'Coin Cabinet in Jena'.
