By a royal decree dated June 1st, 1891, the 'Royal Museums in Berlin' were authorised to accept a collection of stone monuments that Eduard Glaser (1855-1908) had brought together during his third journey to Yemen (Oct. 1887-Sept. 1888) and that, subsequently, was acquired by the publisher and philanthropist Rudolf Mosse (1843-1920).
After Glaser had renounced the publication of his finds, the task was entrusted to the renowned scholar and diplomat Johannes Heinrich Mordtmann (1852-1932).
