Hartwig Derenbourg (1844-1908) was appointed assistant to the commission of Semitic inscriptions at the 'Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres' and was entrusted, under the direction of his father Joseph Derenbourg (1811-1895), with the Himyaritic and Sabaean section. In this article (published in 1885), Hartwig and Joseph Derenbourg describe some of the inscriptions acquired by the Louvre Museum from Alfred Bardey (1854-1934) in 1886.
In order to underpin his translation of ancient Arabic inscriptions acquired by the Louvre Museum in Paris, Hartwig Derenbourg refers to findings by Eduard Glaser and quotes from various publications of the explorer such as - 'Die Abessinier in Arabien und Afrika' - 'Mittheilungen über einige aus meiner Sammlung stammende sabäische Inschriften'.
Objects originating from Eduard Glaser's first trip to Yemen (1882-1884) are: - GL 211 - GL 213 - GL 274
Reference is made to the following inscriptions: - GL 71 - GL 424 - GL 686 - GL 877 - GL 1074 - GL 1076 - GL 1081 - GL 1146
