In 1886, the 'Königliches Münzkabinett zu Berlin' (Royal Coin Cabinet in Berlin) acquired a collection of approx. 100 Yemeni coins from Eduard Glaser. The German orientalist and numismatist Heinrich Nützel (1863-1934) was entrusted with the assessment of the Glaser Collection.
He attributed the coins to the Banī Rasūl, i.e. the dynasty that ruled Yemen from 1228 to 1454 (626 - 855 H.) (p. 5). Having recognized the singular importance of those coins, Nützel decided to further elaborate on the history of the coins and to deal with the Rasūlid Dynasty in his doctoral thesis.
