Between 1864 and 1889, the German explorer, botanist and anthropologist Georg August Schweinfurth (1836-1925) travelled through large parts of Eastern and Central Africa; he explored the region of the upper Nile River basin known as the Baḥr al Ghazāl and discovered the Uele River, a tributary of the Congo.
In his review of Eduard Glaser's monograph 'Die Abessinier in Arabien und Afrika auf Grund neuentdeckter Inschriften', Prof. Schweinfurth highlights chapter 18 as particularly important for the studies of Abyssinia. Although he values Glaser's contribution to the examination of the relations between Abyssinia (present-day Ethiopia) and Ancient South Arabia, he mentions that some of Glaser's statements regarding similarities of names in Africa and Yemen should be taken with caution.
