AT-OeAW-BA-3-27-F-00541
Authors: Grünert, Max
Locality: Prag
Language: German
Contents:
In spring 1894, Max Grünert (1849-1929), professor of Semitic languages and literatures in Prague, was requested by the Imperial and Royal Ministry of Education to assess Glaser's collection of manuscripts in view of a purchase by the ministry. He prepared a report including a handlist on the collection as an appendix. Whereas his abbreviated version of the report which he presented at the International Congress of Orientalists in Geneva (1894) was published, his handlist remains unpublished.
Grünert's catalogue constitutes the basis for the records on Eduard Glaser's collection of 254 Arabic and Persian manuscripts available at the Austrian National Library (Österreichische Nationalbibliothek - ÖNB). The categories comprise: - Qurʾān - tradition - dogmatics - jurisprudence - natural history, medicine, astronomy, kabbalistic literature - geography - history - grammar - rhetoric - lexicography - poetry & - ʾadab
Grünert's catalogue as well as Thomas Ripper's handwritten catalogue (2001) containing amendments with regard to authors and manuscript titles are part of the Austrian National Library's 'Glaser Collection'.
