The author, the Swedish Orientalist Count Carlo Landberg (1848-1924), gives an account of the preparation and implementation of the Austrian expedition to South Arabia in 1898/99.
Carlo Landberg was appointed as leader of the expedition to the interior of South Arabia - basically on account of his excellent knowledge of the territory. However, he had to share the overall responsibility of the expedition with Prof. David Heinrich Müller (1846-1912), professor of Semitic philology at the University of Vienna and member of the Imperial Academy of Sciences. Due to an increasing conflict with Müller, Count Landberg eventually resigned from his position.
VOLUME II The book also reflects Eduard Glaser's view of the expedition (pp. 174-176) which the latter shared with Fritz Hommel (1854-1936), German Professor of Semitic languages.
