Online Exhibition of digitized Yemeni manuscripts This exhibition is part of 'The Digital Bab al-Yemen', a project hosted at the Freie Universität Berlin. It provides access to the scans in high resolution of a large number of Arabic manuscripts stemming from the 'Glaser Collections' in Berlin, Vienna and Munich.
Between 1882 and 1894, Eduard Glaser undertook four journeys to what then was Yemen under Ottoman administration. During that time he acquired more than 850 manuscripts which he sold to - the 'Königliche Bibliothek zu Berlin' (now 'Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin') - the 'British Museum' in London and - the 'Kaiserlich-Königliche Hofbibliothek' (now 'Österreichische Nationalbibliothek') in Vienna in order to fund his extensive research.
