This presentation by Jan Thiele highlights Eduard Glaser's role as a collector of artefacts and provides an insight into the initial phase of the digitization process of manuscripts collected by him and sold to European libraries such as the 'Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preußischer Kulturbesitz' (Berlin State Library - Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation), the 'Österreichische Nationalbibliothek' (Austrian National Library) and the British Library.
It is widely known that Eduard Glaser was obliged to revert to the sale of items of different types he had collected (reliefs - inscriptions, manuscripts, gems, amulets, coins, weapons...) to museums and libraries in order to fund his journeys to Yemen. Whereas the Glaser collections of pre-islamic inscriptions are - in the meantime - well studied, little is known, for instance, on the explorer's collections of coins.
The personal estate of Eduard Glaser available in the Czech Republic (Žatec, Louny & Prague) is likely to shed light on the acquisitions of objects which are less well studied.
