The Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preußischer Kulturbesitz (Berlin State Library - Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation) holds 264 Glaser manuscripts. 23 of these were acquired by the then Königliche Bibliothek zu Berlin (Royal Library in Berlin) after Eduard Glaser's first journey to Yemen from 1882 to 1884. Three years later, the library purchased another 241 manuscripts Glaser had collected during his second trip to Yemen (April 1885 - February 1886).
In spring 1886, the Königliche Bibliothek zu Berlin asked Wilhelm Ahlwardt (1828-1909), Professor of Oriental Languages at the University of Greifswald, to examine a collection of 241 manuscripts offered for sale by Eduard Glaser (1855-1908) In his report, dated June 10th, 1886, Ahlwardt recommended the purchase of the collection.
A revised version of this report, together with a brief handlist of the collection's contents (based on an inventory of the manuscripts prepared by Eduard Glaser), was published later as 'Kurzes Verzeichniss der Glaser'schen Sammlung arabischer Handschriften'.
