In 1883/84, Julius Euting (1839-1913), librarian and explorer, travelled together with Charles Huber (1837–1884) to al-ʿUlā where he collected a considerable number of inscriptions in various languages (Minaic, Lihyanite & Thamudic). Euting's collection of epigraphic material was published by David Heinrich Müller (1846-1912), professor of Semitic languages at the University of Vienna, in his 'Epigraphische Denkmäler aus Arabien (nach Abklatschen und Copien des Herrn Dr. Julius Euting in Strassburg)'.
On the occasion of the publication of Euting's epigraphic material by David Heinrich Müller, Eduard Glaser (1855-1908) discusses the pre-islamic Jewish settlement in the Arabian Peninsula, putting forward some daring assumptions...
