In this article, Fritz Hommel (1854-1936), Professor of Semitic languages at the University of Munich, sets out the achievements accomplished by Eduard Glaser (1855-1908) during his three journeys to South Arabia.
He points out that the Austrian traveller has hitherto collected far more inscriptions (1032) than any other of the explorers who had travelled Yemen before him.
This article also contains an overview of the contents of Eduard Glaser's work 'Skizze der Geschichte Arabiens von den ältesten Zeiten bis zum Propheten Muhammad'.
The following Glaser inscriptions are referred to:
- GL 553,
- GL 555,
- GL 556 and
- GL 618
