Reference is made to an article in the 'Vossische Zeitung' (no. 222, 12.05.1908) in which the author Alfred Klaar pays tribute to Eduard Glaser by publishing a letter by the explorer. In this letter, Eduard Glaser describes the difficulties he encountered in his endeavours to obtain a travel permit for Mārib.
In this context, Eduard Glaser is quoted as follows: 'So I'm back in Arabia, where I'm still eagerly following in the footsteps of the beautiful Queen of Sheba. It's no use, the woman always remains at the centre of our thinking, striving and feeling. However, everyone does it in their own way. While poets and novelists place women at the centre of their ingenious creations, the poor traveller must content himself with tracing the graves of famous beauties and heroines...'
