In his letter to Manfredo Camperio, the president of the Milan African Geographical Society, Luigi Caprotti (1858-1889), an Italian merchant, resident in Ṣanʿāʾ since 1883, reports on Eduard Glaser's journey to Mārib by quoting from a letter written by the explorer on March 30th, 1888. (p. 142)
Caprotti describes in detail how Eduard Glaser narrowly escaped death after an ambush by bedouins on April 20th (at around 5 p.m.); the explorer had to resort to a ruse (p. 198) in order to be able to return to Ṣanʿāʾ on April 24th, 1888.
Glaser's trip to Mārib yielded 391 Sabaen inscriptions and a topographical survey of the entire eastern part of Yemen.
