This book traces the history of the collections held by the 'Orientalisches Münzkabinett' (Oriental Coin Cabinet) in Jena / Germany.
The 'Orientalisches Münzkabinett' of the University of Jena (OMJ) hosts one of the largest collections of oriental coins in Germany, comprising about 21,000 coins and coin-like objects. It was founded in 1840 by the German theologian, orientalist and numismatist Johann Gustav Stickel (1805 - 1896), who served as its director as well as professor for Near Eastern Languages in Jena up to his death.
In 1892, Stickel's former student Heinrich Nützel (1863-1934), Custodian of the coin collection of the Royal Museums in Berlin, which, since 1886, had been in possession of a collection of approx. 100 Yemeni coins originating from Glaser's second trip to Yemen, facilitated the transfer of 8 doublets (Rasūlid coins) to the Oriental Coin Cabinet in Jena.
