This volume contains a biography Nikolaus Rhodokanakis (1876-1945), professor of Semitic philology at the University of Graz (Austria), which reveals previously unknown facts about his scientific work and career, and attempts to trace the person behind the scholar and teacher.
It highlights his role as the founder of Sabaean studies who contributed significantly to the establishment of this discipline on an international level.
Together with Maria Höfner (1900-1992) and Karl Mlaker (1897-1951), Nikolaus Rhodokanakis prepared the edition of a large part of Ancient South Arabian inscriptions which Eduard Glaser (1855-1908) had brought to Vienna from Yemen.
