In this article, the Italian Orientalist Carlo Conti Rossini (1872–1949), member of the 'Accademia dei Lincei, traces the origin of the 'Ḥabašāt'.
As far as the South Arabian relations with Ethiopia are concerned, the author quotes from Eduard work 'Die Abessinier in Arabien und Afrika' and states that 'Glaser's thorough examination of the considerable epigraphic material, much of which he discovered, led him to conclude that the Ḥabašāt maintained a very close relationship with the kingdom of Qataban'. (p. 49)
Basing himself on Eduard Glaser's research, Conti Rossini concludes that 'as early as the 2nd century BCE, there must have existed an African kingdom of the Ḥabašāt, with a metropolis in the black continent and with colonies in Arabia'. (p. 59)
