Against the backdrop of the publication of a press report covering the discovery of a species of frankincense tree by the explorer Wilhelm Hein (1861-1903), Eduard Glaser (1855-1908) describes how he first came into contact with this coveted plant (--> during his third journey to Yemen: October 1887 - September 1888).
'After locals had shown me the strange little trees, I asked the authorities in Aden for permission to cut a branch from one of them and to give it, planted in soil, to the Botanical Garden of the University of Vienna. Permission was readily granted, and the branch, which had already taken root and begun to sprout leaves on my way home, was ... the first incense seedling in Europe. Unfortunately, the tree which came from Tzafâr later died in Vienna.'
