The author of this obituary of Eduard Glaser (1855-1908) emphasizes the explorer's discovery of approx. 400 Ancient South Arabian inscriptions in Mārib and quotes from Fritz Hommel's eulogy at the funeral in Munich:
'What Eduard Glaser was to his friends is best known to those to whom he was close and who are gathered here today in mourning around his open grave...'
The eulogy contains references to an Ancient South Arabian inscription as well as to a grief poem from the 'Kitāb al-Ḥamāsa' of Abū Tammām Ḥabīb Ibn Aws aṭ-Ṭāʾī (†845), translated by the German poet Friedrich Rückert (1788-1866).
