This article discusses the presence of place names in the colophons and notes of Yemeni manuscripts,
based on an examination of 750 volumes held in the Österreichische Nationalbibliothek in Vienna, the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek in Munich, and the Staatsbibliothek in Berlin.
Many of the volumes were acquired from Eduard Glaser (1855-1908):
While the collections from Glaser's first and second journeys to Yemen (October 1882-April 1884; April 1885-February 1886) were acquired by the then 'Königliche Bibliothek zu Berlin', the manuscripts from Glaser's fourth trip passed into the possession of then 'Hofbibliothek' in Vienna.
The collection available at the Bavarian State Library in Munich had been brought together by the Italian merchant Giuseppe Caprotti (1862–1919) who asked Glaser to complete the sale.
