This obituary of Eduard Glaser (1855-1908) covers the explorer's formative years in Bohemia and hightlights Glaser's observation of a total solar eclipse in Sohag (Upper Egypt) in May 1882.
The author also outlines Glaser's four trips to Yemen between 1882 and 1894, emphasising that the scholar collected more than 2,000 ancient South Arabian inscriptions, some 400 of which in the Marib region alone.
Among Glaser's publications, special mention is made of the 'Skizze der Geschichte und Geographie Arabiens von den ältesten Zelten bis zum Propheten Muhammed', as well as of a series of articles published by the daily newspaper 'Bohemia'.
