In this article, Eduard Glaser (1855-1908) provides an account of his memorable visit to Mārib, the capital of the kingdom of Saba' from which he returned to Ṣanʿāʾ on April 24th, 1888.
He describes his return journey to Ṣanʿāʾ, which he had 'undertaken for lack of money', as far more dangerous than would have been a continuation on to Ḥaḍramawt. Although he deplores that he was thus deprived of the opportunity of yielding more scientific results, Glaser is quite satisfied that he has increased the number of inscriptions collected to 850, which is more than the number gathered by his predecessors taken together.
