'Theuerster Freund! Unsere Briefe ... haben sich gekreuzt. ... Ein Ihnen so wolwollender u. befreundeter Gelehrter wie H. Winckler hat ja erst kürzlich mir gegenüber die Minäischen Könige, wenn ich nicht irre, paläographisch zwischen die älteren u. jüngeren Kge von Saba setzen zu müssen geglaubt (jedenfalls erst nach den Makârib...).
Wie sehn denn die Abklatsche der Halevyinschriften paläographisch aus? Bestätigen Sie das von mir in der Einf. zu meiner Chrest. ausgeführte? ... Wann kommen Sie nach München? Was Ihre Feinde anlangt, ... so sind nun die 2 Hauptgönner Radham's, Kremer & Sprenger todt. Allerdings lebt Nöldeke, aber ich glaube, daß die Zeit auch vorüber ist, wo er blindlings auf jedes Wort Radham's schwor. Und Radham selbst ist wissenschaftlich doch wenigstens im südarab. Gebiet, ziemlich kaltgestellt.
Hat wol Bent inschr. Material aus Hadram. mitgebracht? Ist dem so, dann wird es ihm wol Radham abbetteln, wie er das mit den äth. Inschriften (die er bis heut noch nicht veröffentlicht hat!) verstanden hat. ...
In 4 Wochen wird sich entscheiden, ob meine Chrest. materiell einen Erfolg erzielt hat oder nicht. ... ... Meine Frau grüßt gleichfalls bestens. In alter Treue Ihr Hommel'
